Renze Power Sports: The Heartbeat of the Trails

Our Journey Building Renze Power Sports

By Carole Renze,  Co-Owner

When my husband Chuck and I first looked out across the dense, snow-heavy pines of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula decades ago, we didn’t just see just a beautiful landscape. We saw a playground, a sanctuary, and a way of life. Both of us were raised with the throttle in our hands, spending our childhoods chasing winters on vintage snowmobiles and summers and navigating the woods: hitting hill climbs, playing in the sand and mud. We knew early on that the U.P. wasn’t just a place to live; it was a region meant to be actively explored, respected, and shared. That shared lifelong passion is exactly what drove us to establish Renze Power Sports.

Today, our business has grown into a multi-location gateway for outdoor recreation, spanning across our headquarters in Munising, our gateway location in Newberry, and our lakeside hub in Manistique. But no matter how much our showrooms expand, or how advanced the machinery becomes, our core mission remains unchanged: to help both locals and visitors experience the absolute best vantage points that our northern wilderness has to offer, during every single season of the year.

Born from a Lifelong Passion

To understand why we do what we do, you have to understand what riding means to us. Chuck and I have always believed that there is a distinct freedom found on a backcountry trail that you cannot replicate anywhere else. Whether it is the quiet hush of a fresh powder day in the Hiawatha National Forest or the thrill of kicking up dirt on an ORV route in mid-July, powersports are the heartbeat of the Upper Peninsula.

When we entered the dealership world, we didn’t want to build a sterile corporate showroom. We wanted to build a community hub—a true basecamp where riders could gather, share trail conditions, swap stories, and find the reliable equipment they need to get home safely. We intentionally chose our locations to align with the finest riding networks in the country. Our Newberry facility acts as what we proudly call the “southern gateway to the Tahquamenon Falls” area, while our Munising location places riders directly at the doorstep of hundreds of miles of designated public trails through the Hiawatha National Forest. We treat the U.P. as our backyard, and our customers as our neighbors.

Curating a Fleet Worthy of the Wilderness

We know that a trail ride is only as good as the machine underneath you. Because of our deep roots in the sport, Chuck and I have always been incredibly selective about the brands we bring into our dealerships. We chose to partner with elite, industry-leading manufacturers because we know our customers demand equipment that can survive the brutal, unpredictable winters and rugged summer terrain of northern Michigan.

In our showrooms, you will find an extensive lineup of new and pre-owned inventory carefully curated for every type of adventurer:

• Winter Dominance: We carry the latest engineering marvels from Ski-Doo, Polaris, and Lynx snowmobiles, optimized for everything from technical deep-snow mountain riding to smooth, long-distance trail cruising.

• Off-Road Ruggedness: For the warmer months, we stock a massive inventory of Can-Am and Polaris off-road vehicles. This includes high-performance side-by-sides like the Polaris RZR, hard-working utility models like the Can-Am Defender and Polaris Ranger, as well as versatile Can-Am Mavericks built to conquer any mud or rocky grade.

We don’t just sell these machines; our family and our team ride them. When a customer walks in looking for advice, we can speak from personal, real-world experience about how a specific suspension handles a rough trail or which track profile is best for the week’s snowfall.

Opening the Outdoors to Everyone

One of our greatest joys as business owners has been expanding our rental department. Chuck and I quickly realized that you shouldn’t have to own a trailer full of expensive equipment to experience the magic of the Northwoods. We wanted to lower the barrier to entry so that families, tourists, and curious beginners could experience the thrill of the trail safely.

Through our rentals, we offer late-model, meticulously maintained Polaris side-by-sides—including nimble 2-seaters, family-sized 4-seaters, and robust 6-passenger Ranger Crews. When a group rents from us, they aren’t just getting keys; they are getting a complete, turn-key adventure. Our staff handles the safety briefings, guides riders through the operational controls, and provides customized trail maps based on real-time conditions. Watching a family come back to the dealership covered in trail dust, with massive smiles on their faces, is easily one of the most rewarding parts of my job.  Last winter, we ranked through Polaris Adventures in the top 10 of snowmobile rental companies across America.

The Renze Standard: Service Beyond the Sale

If there is one thing I pride myself on above all else, it is the culture of our team. A dealership is only as strong as its service department, and the wilderness can be an unforgiving place if your equipment isn’t running perfectly. That is why we have invested heavily in building a top-tier parts and service infrastructure, staffed by highly trained technicians.

Whether a local rider needs an urgent repair on a piece of utility equipment, or a tourist experiences a mechanical glitch on their snowmobile in the middle of a weekend trip, we treat every issue with urgency. We maintain an expansive, fully stocked parts department with direct pipelines to Polaris and BRP, ensuring that we can get our riders back on the trail with minimal downtime.

To us, “customer service” isn’t a phrase we put on a billboard; it’s an active promise. It means staying late to help a stranded rider, providing honest technical advice, and standing firmly behind every machine that leaves our floor. We know how precious weekend riding time is, and we do everything in our power to protect it for our guests.

Looking Ahead to the Next Horizon

As we look toward the future, we remain deeply committed to investing in the communities that have supported us for so many years. The Upper Peninsula is growing, and the technology behind powersports is evolving faster than ever before. But no matter how much things change, the core of Renze Power Sports will always stay grounded in the simple joy of outdoor exploration.

We invite you to come visit us at any of our hubs, whether you are stopping by our Munising headquarters on Prospect Street or grabbing gear at our Newberry shop on Newberry Avenue. Let our family help your family plan an unforgettable excursion into the great outdoors. The trails are waiting, the snow is calling, and we are ready to help you ride.
