Getting Ready for Snow and The Fun It Brings in East Jordan!

As I sit here writing this article, it is the first day of firearm deer hunting season, the sun is shining and the light amount of snow we received overnight has melted. The communities of East Jordan, Ellsworth and Atwood are getting ready for the holidays and the upcoming winter sports season. Snowmobilers are getting their new sleds ready to hit the trails, the outfitters are preparing the rafts to head down the Jordan River, ice fishing enthusiasts are organizing their equipment, snow shoers and skiers are waxing, checking bindings, poles, etc. to be ready to hit the trail and slopes.

The main ingredient – SNOW is missing, but the long term weather forecasts predict a snowy and cold winter once it arrives. Our three communities and area loves winter and all the FUN it provides to our residents and visitors. The City of East Jordan is a snowmobile friendly community and does allow snowmobiles in town. Please follow the designated routes in town to access our dining and shopping venues. Our motels and Bed & Breakfast owners are excited to welcome all of our winter enthusiasts.

The 41st Annual Sno-Blast Winter Festival is scheduled for February 18 – 20 in East Jordan. A full weekend of family fun events and experience are being planned by the Sno-Blast Winter Fest Committee. The popular Belle of the Blizzard and Winter Knight Contest will be back. The “Ride Like a Girl To Save The Girls Bikini Radar Run” is also returning. Money raised will be donated to local residents fighting breast cancer for travel expenses, etc. The snow sculpture contest is back, along with the Sno-Lovers Breakfast on Sunday at the East Jordan Sno-Mobilers Clubhouse. Visit the East Jordan Area Chamber website for complete schedule of events in late December www.ejchamber.org.

While enjoying your winter activities in our area, be sure to check out all of our wonderful businesses. Ribbon Cuttings continue and we are so excited about our new entrepreneurs who are coming to the region to open the businesses of their dreams! From a new wine-tasting room (now with outside igloos), to maple syrup infused into soft serve ice cream (only place to get it other than Vermont) to hand-blown glass. A local Artists Gift Shop, clothing, gifts, used and new book store featuring local authors, resale shops, the supply chain shortage is not so evident here. Get your holiday shopping completed in between your outdoor activities! Our locally owned and managed restaurants are open serving delicious food for your family and groups all winter.

Get ready to experience “winter” in the Breezeway Communities of East Jordan, Ellsworth and Atwood. Contact the Chamber for lodging, activity or shopping information.

Happy Holidays!!
