Our area had a brief taste of winter in mid-November as snowflakes were in the air, the temperatures dropped, and the winds were howling. It has since warmed up and the sunshine has melted what snow was scattered on the ground. Yet it was enough of a reminder of all the wonderful winter sports ahead of us in the upcoming months.
Get those snowmobiles ready, wax those skis, schedule a winter raft trip, pull out the ice fishing gear and snowshoes! Now, more than ever, time outside in nature is one of your best ways to stay healthy, lower stress and experience a great quality of life.
The East Jordan Area Chamber of Commerce, which represents The Breezeway Communities of East Jordan, Ellsworth and Atwood, has information and suggestions on places to stay, dine and shop, along with trail maps and winter recreational opportunities in these communities. In the meantime, as we await the arrival of winter and the start of snowmobile season, please support your local small businesses. You can shop, dine, buy gift cards or certificates and utilize the services of your community’s locally owned businesses. Now more than ever, these small business owners need our support. Every sale and every dollar make a HUGE difference to these businesses. Support those that have supported your sports teams, special events, community projects, festivals and activities. As this pandemic continues and we once again are seeing new mandates, our businesses are being severely impacted. Let’s do our part to ensure our communities and businesses survive and are here once the pandemic is over.
Hope to see you in our area in the upcoming months. Our region won’t disappoint you! The beautiful Jordan Valley Snowmobile Trail is a snowmobiler’s delight. Ice fishing on Lake Charlevoix is spectacular, and snowshoeing on our many nature preserves is gorgeous. A winter raft trip on the wild and scenic Jordan River is memorable.
